The Camp
Mayukuyuku (meaning water hitting rocks) is situated between the lightly wooded forest and the Kafue riverbank. We are just downstream of a number of small rapids hence our name. The camp faces a small island, so there are spectacular views in many directions, which often gives good wildlife sightings when in the camp.
This small, intimate camp has just 4 luxury en-suite permanent tents under thatched roofs with their own verandahs and hammocks, each one overlooking the river.
Hot Tea or Coffee is delivered to your tent at your required wake-up time, to enjoy on your verandah.
Nearly all our structures have been built using natural materials collected from outside the park, this gives the camp a truly rustic, old style “safari feel”.
Our adjoining bathrooms are open to the stars, have hot showers and flushing toilets.
The main communal area has an open sided dining room with a small lounge and bar for an alfresco dining experience. It’s location affords fabulous views down the Kafue River in the daytime and often hippo or antelope can be seen grazing on the banks.
In the evenings your three course meal is served in a cosy atmosphere with candles and lanterns.
We only serve fresh produce prepared by our chefs with a big emphasis on fresh fruit and vegetables, and Zambian sourced meat and fish.
We use Zambian products whenever possible and cater for all dietary requirements.
There is a fully stocked bar and a good selection of wines.
Guests are served meals at a communal table which is conducive to lively conversation, often about the day’s sightings, but should you wish to eat at your chalet, that’s also ok.
Packages
We recommend our All inclusive package in the luxury tents which means we take care of everything for you
including your transfers and it removes the need to carry very much money apart from a little for drinks, gifts and any tips you may wish to leave.
We also offer Full Board Only, leaving you to organise your activities as you please – in advance or once in the camp. We can arrange transfers or if in your own vehicle, you can drive around the park in your own time. We can supply maps of local loops.
For those on a Budget and who may not have of their own transport, we can assist with collection and drop-off from the nearest bus stop.
For those who enjoy Camping, we have very affordable camping rates on a wonderful site on the river. We offer lightweight camping tents with mattresses for hire, if you don’t have your own.
